The court found that the certificate of costs issued to the advocate had not been set aside or altered and was therefore final as to the amount due. However, there was no clear evidence of when the bill of costs was first delivered to the client prior to taxation. The court determined that the client became aware of the bill on 12th March 2024, and thus, the one-month period under Rule 7 of the Advocates Remuneration Order lapsed on 12th April 2024. Interest at 14% per annum would therefore accrue from 12th April 2024 until payment in full. The advocate is required to give credit for any sums already paid by the respondent.
