The court found that the appellant's plea was unequivocal, taken in a language he understood with the assistance of an interpreter, and that the proper plea-taking procedure was followed. However, the trial magistrate erred in imposing a default sentence of two years' imprisonment for non-payment of the fine, as the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act does not specify a default sentence. In such cases, Section 28(2) of the Penal Code applies, which provides a scale for default imprisonment terms.
