The Land Disputes Tribunal acted outside its statutory jurisdiction by determining a dispute relating to title to registered land, which is expressly excluded from its mandate under section 3(1) of the Land Disputes Tribunals Act. The Tribunal's award, which purported to transfer ownership of the suit premises from the registered proprietor to the interested parties, was therefore null and void ab initio. The High Court, relying on established case law and statutory provisions, held that only the High Court or a Resident Magistrate's Court with appropriate jurisdiction could determine such matters.
