Legal Issues
- 1 Whether the trial court should be granted an extension of time to conclude the criminal trial beyond the initial six months ordered by the High Court.
Ratio Decidendi
The court found that the trial court had made significant progress in hearing the case, with all but five prosecution witnesses having testified. Given the complexity of the subject matter and the need for a fair and complete hearing, the High Court exercised its supervisory jurisdiction to grant the trial court a further six months to conclude the hearing. The extension was justified to ensure that justice is not compromised by undue haste and that all relevant evidence is properly considered.
