The Land Disputes Tribunal acted ultra vires its statutory mandate by purporting to determine ownership and title to land registered under the Registered Land Act and by ordering rectification of the register and eviction of the applicant. The Tribunal's jurisdiction is strictly limited to matters set out in section 3(1) of the Land Disputes Tribunals Act, which does not include ownership or title to registered land. The Registered Land Act vests exclusive jurisdiction over such matters in the High Court or Resident Magistrate's Court, and the rights of a registered proprietor are absolute and indefeasible.
