The court found that the 1st respondent, the Riana Magina Land Disputes Tribunal, acted in excess of its jurisdiction by entertaining and determining a dispute concerning ownership and title to registered land, which is expressly outside the scope of its statutory mandate under section 3(1) of the Land Disputes Tribunals Act. The tribunal’s decision, which purported to award a portion of the suit property to the 1st interested party and order its transfer, was therefore null and void. Consequently, the 2nd respondent, the Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court, had no jurisdiction to adopt such a null and void decision as a judgment of the court.
