There is no legal requirement to inform an accused of the sentence before plea or to conduct a mental assessment unless there is evidence of mental disorder, which was absent. The plea was therefore unequivocal. However, the sentence of fifteen years' imprisonment was not justified given the value and quantity of the cannabis, and the trial court erred by not specifying the default sentence for non-payment of the fine.
