BINOD KUMAR versus STATE OF JHARKHAND AND ORS.
The Supreme Court held that while the PML Act gives exclusive authority to the Enforcement Directorate for investigation under the Act (money laundering offences), there is no legal bar on CBI or any other competent investigative agency from investigating other scheduled offences such as those under the Prevention of Corruption Act or IPC. The High Court order requiring CBI investigation into those offences was justified given the scale and complexity of the alleged offences; no interference was warranted.
