Although prosecutorial conduct introduced prejudicial material and some remarks were improper, overall the jury were properly directed; the Crown proved maintenance of a standard of living incommensurate with official emoluments and the defendants failed to give satisfactory explanations on contested specific transactions, and a non‑Crown‑servant who assists with knowledge or recklessness as to the lack of satisfactory explanation can be convicted of aiding and abetting; accordingly leave to appeal was granted but convictions and sentences were affirmed.
