Conviction quashed because the trial judge failed to inform himself fully and properly exercise his discretion to exclude highly prejudicial evidence admissible only within strict statutory limits under s.29(3), admitted evidence exceeding those limits (including surrounding incriminating material and cautioned statements), and permitted a damaging cross-examination suggestion linking the appellant to the alleged mastermind which was not cured by the summing-up; the combined errors rendered the conviction unsafe.
