Given the New Zealand High Court's extensive prior involvement with the 2014 freezing order, the residence of key parties and witnesses in New Zealand, and the risk of conflicting orders, the Hong Kong court should stay the defendants' substantive applications to vary the restraint order and defer to the New Zealand court; however limited interim relief (release of NZ$648,000 for two years' rent) was warranted to facilitate relocation negotiations and because the SJ did not oppose continuation of the existing rent allowance for two years.
