The appellant's information was of practical use notwithstanding the absence of arrests because it led to the interception of a substantial consignment of dangerous drugs matching his particulars and provided intelligence about smuggling methods and persons involved; therefore a sentencing discount was warranted and, on assessment of the assistance and its consequences, the appropriate reduction was 1 year and 6 months, reducing the sentence from 18 years to 16 years 6 months imprisonment.
