The Hong Kong Companies Court, exercising its common law power of assistance grounded in the principle of modified universalism, can recognise foreign provisional liquidators and order oral examination and production of documents when such measures are necessary for the administration of the foreign liquidation and consistent with established limits; such orders do not infringe Basic Law Article 96 and are therefore permissible in this case.
