The judge's directions were adequate: he expressly identified D1's incentive and admitted dishonesty, warned the jury to take heed and assess credibility, and properly treated the defendant's failure to put his confrontation account to D1 as a matter affecting weight (not inviting an adverse inference) after consultation with counsel; fresh evidence and renewed grounds did not meet the threshold to undermine the safety of the conviction, therefore extension of time was granted but leave to appeal was refused and the conviction was upheld.
