The Court held that the proper approach is to set an overall starting point and then allow deductions; given the offender's persistence an enhanced overall starting point was justified, but the applicant was entitled to credit for his admissions in addition to the plea discount; consequently the aggregate sentence was excessive and must be reduced to 5 years and 9 months to be served concurrently.
