Although initial facts gave rise to apparent authority, Belfont obtained information (notably payment by cheques stamped "Yat Fung Hong" and Hui's demonstrated capacity with Yat Fung Hong) that should have prompted immediate inquiry; that knowledge defeated the estoppel as to the transactions in dispute and, assessing each sale separately, the defendant was not liable for the unpaid invoices; accordingly the claim against Cheung fails.
