Although individual discrepancies were minor, their cumulative effect created a substantial lurking doubt about whether the contact was deliberate; because the appellate court was left with a real doubt the conviction was unsafe and therefore was quashed; no Turnbull warning was required because identity was not contested and magistrate's treatment of good character was adequate in context of Tang Siu-man.
