The Court upheld the convictions because the trial judge's directions were not flawed and the circumstantial and forensic evidence sufficed to support jury verdicts. The Court held the trial judge erred in characterising the 1st applicant as the principal and infixing disparate culpability; accordingly the Court substituted a reduced sentence for the 1st applicant (8.5 years) after a proportionate reduction for cooperation.
