Section 56(3) of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance is prescriptive: agreements for remuneration in non-contentious business must be in writing and signed by the person to be bound or his agent; absent compliance the agreement is unenforceable; accordingly the oral agreement relied upon by the plaintiff cannot be enforced and leave to appeal is refused.
