Convictions were safe and are upheld because the identification evidence, albeit imperfect, was reasonably reliable and the jury had proper Turnbull directions; however the sentencing judge erred in applying a rigid age cutoff for 'extreme youth' and in failing adequately to consider youth as mitigation: extreme youth can mitigate even if marginally over 15 depending on circumstances; having regard to totality and youth the sentences were manifestly excessive and are reduced to 10 years for A1 (to be served concurrently) and 8 years for A2.
