The transfer of an identity card to a known illegal immigrant for the purpose of obtaining employment undermines the identity card regime and, absent special mitigating features, justifies an immediate custodial sentence comparable to that imposed on the immigrant who used the card; therefore the magistrate's sentence of 15 months on the principal charges was appropriate and is upheld.
