On the material before the Court and in the absence of any supporting records or explanation from counsel, the taxation officer found the claimed counsel fees unjustifiable and unreasonable and therefore taxed the fees down by 85%, allowing HK$130,000 in total; an Order nisi (which became absolute) was made preventing the named counsel from charging lay clients any sum exceeding the taxed amount and requiring refund of any surplus through the respondents' solicitors.
