Where a defendant denies making an oral admission but also alleges conduct by police before or at the time of the alleged admission which might render it involuntary, the trial judge must conduct a voir dire or otherwise determine the voluntariness and admissibility of the alleged admission before allowing it to remain before the jury; failure to do so renders the conviction unsafe and warrants quashing.
