The Court accepted counsel affidavits over the applicant's conflicting affirmation, found no dereliction of professional duty by defence counsel nor prejudice to the trial; the judge's summing-up characterising the defence as challenging police integrity was appropriate; inconsistencies in witness statements were immaterial to safety of conviction; application to adduce further evidence under s.83V had no prospect of success; sentence of 20 years was within established guidelines and not excessive; therefore leave to appeal dismissed and conviction and sentence upheld.
