Where jurors conducted internet research that introduced non-evidential information (the fact the trial was a retrial) into deliberations and that fact was not known to the judge or parties before verdict, the conduct constituted extraneous influence falling within the exception to the confidentiality rule; under those circumstances the verdict was unsafe, the conviction must be quashed and a retrial ordered.
