The court has jurisdiction to permit an original Writ and Indorsement of Claim issued in English to be amended so that the new writ and indorsement are in Chinese; Rule 4(1) must be interpreted broadly to allow documents to be in either official language, and procedural practice requires the amended writ to be re‑issued and the original marked accordingly; accordingly the appeal is allowed and the relevant orders are made.
