The magistrate's credibility findings were reasonable and supported by an independent witness (DW2) and the victim (PW2); the solicitor's letter was admissible only to show the appellant had notice not to contact PW2 and was not used for its truth; there was no imminent threat justifying self-defence; the procedural error in refusing review by letter was technically wrong under s.104(4) but did not render the conviction unsafe. Accordingly the conviction and sentence were upheld.
