Although the magistrate mistakenly referred to truthfulness as bearing on voluntariness, the primary findings (no threats, inducements or oppression and credible prosecution evidence) justified a conclusion that admissions were voluntary; an officer may refresh memory from notes made shortly after an interview and such use affects weight and credibility rather than automatic admissibility; sentencing for persistent baggage theft by handlers warrants an immediate imprisonment starting point in the region of 18 months to 2 years, and the sentences challenged were not manifestly excessive.
