The court ordered separate representation by the Official Solicitor because, on balance, the long history of entrenched parental dispute, evidence that the dispute has adversely affected the child including psychiatric symptoms and the child’s expressed wish, brought the case within the PDSL 6 circumstances (intractable dispute/harm). The court balanced the risk of further stress against the risk of denying the child a voice and concluded appointment of the OS best safeguards the child’s welfare and may assist access to psychiatric treatment.
