The Court held that the convictions should stand because the evidence (recent possession, substituted licence plate belonging to the Applicant, objective indicia of theft and the Applicant's admissions) amply supported inferences of theft and dishonest handling; any potential error on the application of the recent possession doctrine would not have led to a different result (proviso applies); the amendments to charges were trivial and did not require re-arraignment; and the confessions were properly admitted and did not render the trial unfair.
