The statutory phrase 'ordinarily resident' in s.27(1) of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance requires more than mere physical presence; it requires residence with the quality of 'ordinariness' informed by purpose and intention. The Applicant was in Hong Kong for the limited purpose of a Commission of Inquiry and intended to return to the United Kingdom, and therefore did not possess ordinary residence in Hong Kong for the required eight consecutive months; the application is dismissed for failure to satisfy s.27(1)(e).
