The court found parts of the claimed costs excessive due to duplication of work and unjustified multiple fee earners, and that claimed counsel fees were excessive in light of the certificate for two counsel; applying a broad brush summary assessment the court reduced the award and fixed the total recoverable costs at HK$680,000, with leading and junior counsel fees assessed at HK$300,000 and HK$120,000 respectively.
