Expert evidence was only admissible on PRC law issues that were genuinely raised in the affidavits; the Liquidators' broad, open-ended and unparticularised questions were largely inadmissible as fishing expeditions. The court allowed a single joint expert to opine on narrowly defined questions tied to affidavit material (business licence requirements; effect of activities outside licensed scope on validity; and whether PRC law permits lending the entire registered capital) and refused the remainder of the proposed questions.
