The total effective sentence of 9 years was not manifestly excessive because the judge properly discounted for assistance but was justified in imposing a global sentence reflecting the seriousness and persistence of the offending and in ordering the later 7 year sentence to run consecutively to the 2 year sentence already being served because the offences were committed while on bail; leave to appeal against sentence was therefore refused.
