Because the DATC order would be rendered ineffective by the separate 9-month imprisonment and immediate deportation (preventing the mandatory post-treatment supervision and meaningful rehabilitation), the Court set aside the DATC order and substituted concurrent custodial sentences of 6 months for each offence (to run from 12 December 1996) so the applicant would serve the custodial term and then be deported after the existing 9-month sentence; the duty to coordinate related charges was emphasized as guidance to avoid such outcomes.
