The magistrate misapprehended the first appellant's age and, applying the Juvenile Offenders Ordinance preference against imprisonment where other suitable measures exist, the original custodial sentences were excessive; the appeals succeeded and the sentences were set aside and substituted by orders for detention in a training centre.
