The magistrate's three-month sentences were manifestly inadequate because the offences involved police officers in uniform soliciting and accepting protection money; therefore, for corruption under section 4 in such circumstances a custodial sentence of twelve months is the minimum appropriate, and the original sentences are set aside and substituted accordingly.
