Dr Louie’s evidence was admissible in part because it related to supervision and best practice within his field and would assist the judge; Mr Courtney’s technical evidence on coefficients of friction was excluded as irrelevant and unhelpful because it required speculative assumptions in a dynamic accident and would not materially assist the tribunal which can inspect the mats and apply common sense.
