The trial judge did not err in applying precedent or sentencing principles; adopting an 18‑month starting point for possession of another's HKID and granting a 25% guilty plea reduction to produce an effective sentence of 13 months and 2 weeks was within sentencing discretion; the appeal is dismissed.

Application refused because applicant failed to show that admission was in the public interest: the appeal was not shown to be unusually difficult or complex, capable local counsel were available and not inhibited from arguing the points (including any bias ground), and there was no necessity to displace the local Bar for this case under s.27(2).

Given the applicant's leading role in a semi-organised group attack that resulted in death, and the trial judge's proper application of sentencing principles including a generous finding of provocation, the 8-year sentence for manslaughter was not manifestly excessive and no error of principle was made; leave to appeal against sentence was therefore refused.
