Court held it had jurisdiction to entertain the Bank's charitable defence when asserted to protect the Bank's private financial interest; on the merits the 1875 Rules did not create valid charitable trusts: ancestral-worship provisions were private/non-charitable and the village 'common welfare' purpose was either construed as clan‑centred or, if construed widely, was too diffuse and allowed non‑charitable applications and therefore failed; consequently the declared trusts were void for perpetuity or uncertainty and the trust properties result to the settlor's estate.
