    WONG WING-CHUN v. THE QUEEN

    Citation
    WONG WING-CHUN v. THE QUEEN
    Court
    Court of Appeal
    Case number
    CACC498/1978

The first three cautioned statements were wrongly admitted as hearsay and should be excluded; the fourth utterance "Uncle Chung, place this for me" was properly admissible as a verbal act forming part of the res gestae and not tendered for its truth; even excluding the improperly admitted statements, the remaining evidence (five persons entering with betting slips and cash within 1 hour 40 minutes plus the admissible verbal act) was sufficient to support the conviction, therefore the appeal is dismissed.
