Applying the objective reasonableness test from Re L and related authorities to the whole circumstances, the court found the natural mother was not unreasonable in withholding consent; therefore her withdrawal under s.5(5)(d) is effective, the applicants' request to dispense with consent and obtain an adoption order under s.4 fails, and the child must be returned to the natural mother.
