The Court held that, on the material before it, the appellant's information and expressed willingness to testify were of practical use despite the police assessment to the contrary; because the Yeung Hoi Ting procedure had not been properly followed and there was cogent independent evidence supporting the appellant's account, the court intervened and awarded a six‑month discount, reducing the sentence from eight years to seven years and six months.
