The conviction was quashed because the trial judge (and Court of Appeal) failed to properly assess and give sufficient weight to the appellant's credible evidence and supporting bank documents about an underground currency exchange; consequently the receipt of the cheque was not proved to give rise to an irresistible inference that the appellant had reasonable grounds to believe the funds were proceeds of crime.
