The application for stay of execution was refused because the court formed a preliminary view that the appeal grounds were unmeritorious and not reasonably arguable, defendants provided no additional substantive reasons to justify a stay (no evidence they could not pay the judgment or that winding-up would render the appeal nugatory), and defendants had chosen not to file evidence or seek adjournment; accordingly there was no 'good reason' to grant a stay and costs were awarded to the plaintiff on an indemnity basis.
