The appellate judge found the magistrate committed legal error by reaching perverse and unreasonable conclusions when rejecting the complainant's evidence: the magistrate relied on speculative inferences from WhatsApp messages, imposed unrealistic expectations about victim behaviour and complaint wording, and ignored or misunderstood other material evidence and explanations.
