The convictions were upheld because the trial magistrate reasonably and permissibly drew the only rational inference from cumulative evidence: appellants were present in the area of the continuing unlawful assembly, were aware of the unlawful nature of the gathering, and engaged in conduct (identification by police, possession of typical protest equipment, use of a laser pen aimed at police, directing others) that established participation; minor oral slips did not undermine the written reasons and did not render the convictions unsafe.
