The court held both defendant banks were entitled to the statutory protection in s.86 because they collected the cheques in good faith and without negligence given the full factual context known to them at the time; additionally Zanda was held to have been contributorily negligent in structuring the arrangements that resulted in Asean receiving the sale proceeds, and therefore Zanda's claims were dismissed.
