The Court granted leave to appeal only on the pure legal question whether a public officer being or remaining favourably disposed because of pre-office payments can satisfy the conduct element of misconduct in public office; it refused leave on other grounds because they were not reasonably arguable, factual findings (voluntariness of the statement and need for caution) were upheld and no substantial and grave injustice was shown, and because the Count 5 legal issue does not affect Count 7 convictions.
