Because the defendant was shown to be impecunious, there was a real difficulty in enforcing any costs order against him, and the appeal was not of sufficient strength to constitute a countervailing factor, it was just to order security for costs; the appropriate amount for the appeal was fixed broadly at HK$180,000 and the costs of the security application were fixed at HK$80,000.
